Whats wrong with hope?

It makes you want to never avert the gaze from that road.
It makes you want to stay till the last light fades away.
It makes you want to weather the bitterest of cold.
It makes you want to weather the hottest of days.

It leaves you with tears and no hand to wipe.
It leaves you with hurt and an aching heart.
It leaves you with fear and piercing strife.
It leaves you with your world torn apart.

It shows you the light, then buries you in dark.
It shows you the door, then slams it shut.
It shows you the cure, then leaves the mark.
It shows you strength, then inflicts the cut.

How do I believe in hope?
Why should I still?
It shows a smiling countenance,
Then goes for a kill.
